Fly Fishing News, Weekly Report and Results

20th August - Further improvement in boat fishing with fish now at surface and still at the cages, main bowl and also Chingley.  Some fish close in to the shore at Ferry Point.  Fish taking Cormorant, Minkies and Silver Invicta.   Some boats reported an early evening rise although they found it hard to connect with them.  Bewl currently 85% full and water 18.3degC.

FREE  FISHING?

Many anglers are missing the chance of free entry to the Monthly Returns Draw.  Each month over £100 worth of boats and permits are given away to the first three returns drawn.  This month the winners were: 1st Dave Gorsuch (day boat and 2 permits), 2nd J Barnes (evening boat and permit) and 3rd M Hogben (day permit). 

To be included in the draw all you need to do is ensure your name and address are on the return then place it (even if no fish caught) in one of the many boxes around the site.  Returns are a valuable tool for the management and improvement of Bewl fishery - please play your part!

COMPETITION RESULTS

BBFC v Army 3rd August - Army 2 with 25 fish for 43lb 15oz, followed by Bewl A with 14 fish, Army 1 with 11 and Bewl B with 7.  Top rod John Hardy 7 fish for 13lbs 15ozs

AMFC Saturday 19th July saw catch of 103 fish - rod average of 3.4 - fish average of 1 lbs 14 ozs - heaviest fish 3 lbs 5 ozs - two finishers and two blanks - most fish came from Hook Straight.

Queen Mother came out on top, with the fish pretty evenly spread throughout the teams - they had 28, there was a 22, two 20's with Bewl bringing up the rear with 13 !!

Simon Newman was the winner, finishing at 1.15 pm.
